Two more COVID-19 deaths, 66 new cases recorded

TWO females have died after contracting COVID-19, taking Guyana’s overall death toll to 899, the Ministry of Health has reported.
The latest deaths recorded are that of a 62-year-old from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) whose vaccination status is unknown and a 60-year-old from Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) who was said to be unvaccinated.

Additionally, there are currently 3,5170 active COVID-19 cases in Guyana, following the addition of 66 new cases on October 26, 2021, after 1445 tests were conducted.

Region Four accounted for 28 of the new cases. Region Two has 10 new cases; Region Three, three new cases; Region Five, one new case; Region Six,18 new cases; Region Eight, five new cases and Region Nine, one new case.

Additionally, there are 23 patients receiving treatment in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 76 individuals are in institutional isolation, 3,239 are in home isolation and four are in institutional quarantine.

A total of 30,933 people have recovered after they were infected with COVID-19. Many of the persons infected with the virus are said to be asymptomatic, that is, they are not exhibiting symptoms.

The updated COVID–19 Emergency Measures are in force until October 31, 2021. They may be extended or amended by notice of the Minister of Health, after an assessment of the prevailing public health conditions of the pandemic.

As per the current measures, all persons are required to wear face masks when leaving their homes. Also, physical distancing and adequate sanitisation are recommended. The current curfew period is 22:30 hours to 04:00 hours.
