Man on attempted paramour murder charge remanded

ORISON Pollydore (no address given) was yesterday remanded to prison on charges of escaping from lawful custody and attempted murder.
Before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, particulars of one of the indictable charges against him said Pollydore, last July 19, escaped from Timehri Police Station where he was in lawful custody pending the other charge, that, on July 3, at Timehri, with intent to kill Gema Daniels, he set her on fire.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, told the Court that the accused threw kerosene on the virtual complainant after accusing her of being unfaithful.
The Prosecutor said the woman had been hospitalised since but was discharged in October and he made a successful objection to bail for Pollydore, who had only been recently arrested.
The case was transferred to Providence Court, also on East Bank Demerara, for January 3.
Pollydore was one of two men denied bail in the same court on a similar charge.
The other man, Keron DeFreitas (no address given either) is alleged to have inflicted grievous bodily harm on Nowdatt Persaud, in an attempt to kill him, last November 15.
The Prosecutor, who opposed pre-trial liberty for DeFreitas, too, said the accused had been on the run, as well and his arrest was recent.
According to the case for the Prosecution, the prisoner on remand attacked the victim who was walking with his wife and inflicted several stab wounds on his hands and face.
DeFreitas, too, has to go to the Providence Court, on January 3.
