IN sweltering heat, GCC were led by centuries from Rivaldo Phillips and the unrelated Persauds (Navindra and Yeudstar) as their GISE, Star Party Rentals & Trophy Stall Two-day First Division Cricket match over the weekend against Transport SC ended in a high-scoring draw.

Left-arm spinner and GCC captain Devon Lord had 6-61 while there were half-centuries from Transport’s batters Jeremiah Hohenkirk, John Persaud and Jadon Campbell.

GCC were in charge in their backyard at stumps on the opening day on 195-3 with Phillips unbeaten on 117. With him, Navindra Persaud not out on 66 in reply to Transport’s 205 all out, needing another 10 runs for a first innings lead.

Phillips, the brother of national player Ricardo All-Mohammed, has reached the boundary 12 times and cleared it six times in his 109-ball knock. He shared in a 170-run third from 209 balls with Persaud, who has faced 121 balls and hit six boundaries.

TSC’s Jeremiah Honenkirk followed up his first innings 46 with an accomplished 85 yesterday at Bourda.

Veteran off-spinner Kevin Ross opened the bowling and removed Martin Pestano-Bell (11) and Nicolas Shiopersaud (0) to leave GCC on 25-2.

Earlier, the 30-year-old Lord, captured 6-61 as he continued to befuddle the batters despite his shocking rejection from the ongoing inter-county Super50.

Transport SC’s Hohenkirk hit seven fours and six in his 46, while Ewert Samuels blasted an unbeaten 17-ball 38 with six fours and two sixes.

Only John Persaud (30), Joshua Daniels (24) and Campbell of the other batters reached 20.

The pitch got better for batting yesterday when GCC resumed on their overnight score on another day of scorching heat.

Phillips added three runs to first day 117 before John Persaud bowled Phillips to end the 176-run stand.

The Persauds (Navindra and Yeudstar) joined forces on a batting paradise. Both batters participated in the runs feast as they shared in an unfinished 178 fourth partnership before GCC declared at 379-3.

Yeudstar hit 12 fours and seven sixes in a 76-ball 121 while opener Navindra 119 lasted 119 balls and was decorated with 12 boundaries.

Transport SC reached 215-4 in their second innings before the captains opted the call off play just after 15:00hrs when the diminutive Campbell was removed by Navindra Persaud, a medical doctor by profession.

Campbell hit six fours and two sixes in 72-ball 59. This was after Ryan Latif (10) and John Persaud who reached the ropes seven times and cleared it once in a 48-run opening stand.

Hohenkirk struck five fours and seven sixes in an accomplished 85 before he was unfortunately run out at the non-striker’s end when 15 short of a maiden first division ton.
