INVESTIGATORS from the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) are yet to determine the cause of the fire which gutted White Boy’s Auto Spares & Accessories bond at Annandale, East Coast Demerara last month.
This was confirmed by the Fire Chief, Gregory Wickham, who said, in an interview with Guyana Chronicle, that the investigation was ongoing.
The Fire Chief pointed out that fire investigators are still going through their reports, after which the cause of the fire should be known.
A fire investigation can take a long time due to safety concerns, the complex nature of fires, the meticulous gathering and analysis of physical evidence, collaboration with experts, legal processes, and various administrative factors that contribute to a thorough and accurate investigation.
The Guyana Chronicle had reported that the fire started just about 00:11 hrs on Wednesday, September 6, 2023.
Water tenders from the Melanie, Campbellville, and Alberttown fire stations were immediately dispatched to the scene. The structure involved was a two-storey concrete building owned by 42-year-old Mohammed Alli.
Three jets working from water tenders #105, #116 and water carrier #16 were used to extinguish the fire. However, the building and its contents were destroyed.
The businessman had reported over $1 billion in losses.
