POLICE are investigating the alleged murder of Bharrat Gendalall, called Premesh, a 29-year-old driver of Lot 29 Clay Brick Road, Canal #2, West Bank Demerara, at about 19:45 hours on Saturday night.

In a press release, the police said that investigations have so far revealed that Gendalall arrived home from work at around 19:40 hours, and was chatting with friends in front of his home.

Sometime after, he went across the road to urinate, when a motorcar driven by the suspect approached at a fast rate, with bright lights on, and stopped where Gendalall was urinating. The driver/suspect exited the car, and an argument started between him and the victim.

“Gendalall dealt the suspect a cuff, and the suspect entered his vehicle and drove off. Gendalall went into his yard when the said car returned and stopped in front of his house. The suspect and five masked men exited, and ran into the yard towards Gendalall, where a scuffle ensued, resulting in the victim being stabbed in his chest. He fell to the ground, and the men ran out of the yard,” the police said.

An alarm was raised, and Gendalall was rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he died while receiving medical attention.

The body was photographed and escorted to the Ezekiel Funeral Home, where it is currently awaiting a post-mortem examination.

The scene was processed, statements taken, and further investigation is underway.

Police are presently looking for the suspect(s) and motorcar.
