Autopsy finds teen ‘mom’ died from drowning; no marks of violence seen on body

ANISA Miguel, the 19-year-old mother of one, whose body was found on Sunday last floating in the Mazaruni River, died from drowning, a post-mortem examination (PME) has found.

According to the police, the PME with dissection was performed on Miguel’s body at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home by Government Pathologist, Dr. Nehaul Singh, on Wednesday.

“The cause of death was given as drowning. According to the pathologist, no injury or marks of violence were present,” the police said in a press statement.

The woman’s body was identified by her reputed husband, Roopnarine Satnarine and the autopsy was witnessed by two police ranks.

The body was thereafter handed over for burial.

Miguel’s decomposing body was found some four miles away from Martin’s Landing, the place where she was last seen alive.
