Construction worker killed in hit-and-run accident

POLICE are currently on the hunt for a motorcar driver who allegedly struck down and killed a 37-year-old construction worker while he attempted to cross the Better Hope Public Road, East Coast Demerara, on Saturday night.

According to a police release, the victim Lizardo Bastardo, also of the said village was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim’s body was identified by his brother, Exiobar Bastardo.

Based on investigation so far, the police said that the unidentified driver fled the scene in his white motor car, which licence plate number is known at this time.

The police said that based on enquiries, the white motorcar was proceeding west on the southern carriageway of Better Hope when Bastardo attempted to cross the said road from south to north.

Police explained that the motorcar collided with Bastardo, then drove away, leaving him motionless in the northern driving lane of the said road.

When police ranks visited the accident scene, debris from a vehicle was seen scattered on the roadway.

Bastardo’s body was later taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home where it is waiting a post-mortem.
