THIRTY-EIGHT-YEAR-OLD Nicola Nickram, a Welfare Officer attached to the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), was, on Wednesday, fined for publicly humiliating a secondary school teacher in the region.
Nickram made her first appearance before Magistrate Esther Sam at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court. The court heard that she used her Facebook account to publicly defame the character of Anna Regina Secondary School teacher, Taysheena Beepat.
The Facebook post was made on December18, 2020, and alleged that the teacher was having an intimate relationship with a student.
Nickram pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined $50,000; she was also instructed to apologise to the victim using her Facebook account and failure to do so will result in two months’ imprisonment.
