-37 active cases
– persons urged to get vaccinated

THE Regional Health Officer for Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), Dr. Ranjeev Singh, is encouraging his fellow Essequibians and Guyanese in general, to get vaccinated against the deadly novel coronavirus, following an increase of 17 positive cases as of April 17, 2021.

The region currently has 37 active cases with 300 persons positive. Dr. Singh, during an interview with the Sunday Chronicle, disclosed that the vaccination drive has intensified and the region’s vaccination teams are at various communities administering the jab.

The vaccines are currently available for persons 18 years and older; those with chronic illness are also eligible. Permanent vaccination sites were established at Good Hope, Huist Diren, Abram Zuil, Queenstown, Anna Regina, Windsor Castle, Darthmouth, and Charity Health centers from 08:00hrs to 16:00hrs daily.
The Regional Health Officer is therefore encouraging community, political and religious leaders to ensure that they support the vaccination drive by assisting to mobilise persons to take the vaccines.

Recently, the region had a massive vaccination drive at the Anna Regina Mandir compound where over 350 persons were vaccinated, taking the total to over 4,246 persons receiving vaccines in the Pomeroon-Supenaam Region. The vaccination campaign targets close to 500 residents per day.
Both the AstraZeneca and Sputnik V vaccines are available in the region.

The Ministry of Health has advised that although persons are taking the vaccines it is important that they continue to adhere to the COVID-19 guidelines by wearing a mask, avoid crowds, clean hands and surfaces regularly, keep a distance of six feet and self -isolate.
