A JUVENILE, who allegedly snatched a woman’s handbag containing cash and a cell phone, on Monday, appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and was remanded.

It is alleged that, on January 28 this year, at Middle Road, La Penitence, Georgetown, he, while in the company of another, stole from the person of Corrie Singh, one multicoloured shoulder handbag valued at $12,000, one $80,000 midnight-blue cellphone and $63,000 cash.
Prosecutor Inniss told the court that, on the day in question, at about 12:30hrs, while walking along Middle Road, Singh was approached by the accused and several others who were on bicycles.
The juvenile allegedly dismounted his bicycle and relieved the woman of her valuables before escaping with his accomplices.
The victim’s cousin-in-law later found the stolen handbag on Punt Trench Dam and handed it over to the police.
According to Prosecutor Inniss, CCTV footage of the incident was obtained by the police. On January 29, during a confrontation with the police, the accused, reportedly, confessed to committing the crime.
The matter was adjourned to November 16.
