…refused bail
SOME days after a bandit received a sound thrashing from East La Penitence residents; he appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman and was slapped with three charges.
Teron Douglas denied the charges which stated that on October 1, 2018 at Freeman Street, East La Penitence, he robbed David Foster of one gold chain valued $140,000.
It was also alleged that on the same day at Freeman Street, East La Penitence, Douglas had in his possession 12.32 live ammunition without being a firearm licence holder at the time.
It was further alleged that on the same day, at the same location, Douglas had in his possession .32 revolver without being a licence firearm holder at the time.
The 25-year-old man, who resides at 34 Triumph East Coast Demerara, was unrepresented.
Police prosecutor objected to bail due the nature and gravity of the offense and the fact that a firearm was used.
Bail was refused by the magistrate and Douglas was remanded to prison until November 2, 2018.
According to reports Douglas, who was armed with a revolver and 16 matching rounds, was overpowered by his victims when he attempted to rob one of them.
The alleged serial robber demanded that one of the gentlemen hand over the valuables he had in his possession, including his gold chain.
The man hesitated. Douglas reached for the chain and a scuffle ensued and he (Douglas) was overpowered and received a thrashing. When the police arrived, he was handcuffed and taken into police custody. One spent shell was recovered from the scene.
