A post-mortem examination done on the body of young West Berbice cash crop farmer, Rohit Devnarine, who was found hanging at his home on Tuesday, revealed that he died as a result of strangulation caused by hanging.

Investigators were however still stumped by the fact that young farmer of Lot 100 Lovely Lass Village West Coast Berbice (WCB), was found hanging by the neck but with both hands tied behind his back. Commander of `B’ Division Lyndon Alves, confirmed the results of the post-mortem examination on Monday and said that to date there have not been any signs of foul play but the investigations are ongoing.

“We were looking for signs of struggle; that is one of the things we were waiting on the post mortem examination to ascertain; there were no signs of struggle. The house was not disturbed. If there had been a struggle the furniture would have been displaced etc! etc!. There was nothing of the sort.” he said.

Asked whether the dead man could have tied his hands behind his back then hung himself since some would consider this an acrobatic feat, the Commander said: “Well I don’t know! I don’t know!”

He reiterated that the investigations are ongoing and as soon as they are completed a file would be prepared and sent for legal advice.

The dead man reportedly lived alone at his home, in an isolated area at the southern edge of the village. Neighbours said that around noon on Tuesday they saw the door to the man’s house slightly ajar but he was not seen moving around as usual. After some time had elapsed they decided to make a check on him and made the tragic discovery.

Devnarine’s mother, Mrs Shamoon Jameer, who resides some distance away at Number 22 Village, WCB, said that she last saw her son late on Monday evening when he visited her and they chatted and he ate some food. He did not seem in any way depressed and he left for home shortly after finishing his meal. She said that she was at work on Tuesday when she received a telephone call around noon, telling her of the discovery of her son who was one of her eight children.
