STAFFERS of the Guyana National Newspapers Limited (GNNL) ushered in the Festival of Colours with a lively Phagwah concert held in the corridor of the company on Thursday.
The celebration was made possible through much planning and collaboration between staffers of the various departments and was a first of its kind at the Chronicle.

Though GNNL Chairperson Geeta Chandan-Edmond was unable to attend the celebration due to an overseas assignment, her message was delivered by News Editor Tajeram Mohabir.

Chandan-Edmond, in her message read by Mohabir, noted that the message of Phagwah: the celebration of good over evil, is universal in nature.

“The celebration of good over evil is a celebration of unity, a celebration of togetherness and a celebration of courage to shun evil acts,” she said, adding: “Let us at the Guyana Chronicle embrace this message, in work and in our personal lives, let us be clean in our in thoughts and actions and let us love and respect our colleagues and make a genuine effort at what we do so that this company improves in all of its departments.”

Today Guyanese will be smearing each other in a variety of colours in much fun and frolic. These colours, the chair said are symbolic in a sense that they depict unity in diversity.

Prior to the chair’s remarks, the hidden talents of GNNL staffers were unveiled when Accounts Clerk Yogeeta Sooklall took the floor to perform an Indian medley dance. The performance captivated the gathering which had much more to cheer about when Editor-in-Chief Nigel Williams took to the floor, showcasing his sleek, elegant and dazzling dance moves.
