– at Kako, Upper Mazaruni
FORTY-TWO-YEAR-OLD Wilton Williams of Kakao Village, Upper Mazaruni in Region 7 fell from a verandah one Friday night two weeks ago, and is in critical condition in the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC), suffering from allegedly irreparable spinal injuries. He is reportedly paralysed from his waist down.
Relatives said Williams was with friends attending a social function in the village, and after spending some time, was about to leave the premises when he missed his step and fell off the patio floor and landed on his back about 11 feet below.
He remained unconscious until midday Saturday, and was air-dashed on Sunday to Kamarang Health Centre before being transferred to Kamarang Hospital and finally being air-dashed to the city for admission to the GPHC.
The unwed Wilton shared home with his parents, Spence and Lena Williams, at Kako until his mother’s death at the GPHC about one month ago. Now Wilton’s life-threatening injury has brought added grief to his already devastated father, two sisters and one brother, who are still struggling to overcome their recent loss.
Wilton’s condition has deteriorated dramatically over the last few days, and he remains on oxygen (life support) at the GPHC.
