NATI and NAMSS to meet in Region 6 Final today … St George’s and Dolphin clash for G’town honours

THE NEW Amsterdam Multilateral Secondary School (NAMSS) and the New Amsterdam Technical Institute (NATI) scored contrasting victories against their opponents in the semi-finals last week, earning the right to oppose each other in the Digicel Schools Football Championships Region Six final this afternoon.

At the Ministry of Education ground on Carifesta Avenue, St George’s Secondary and Dolphin Secondary will meet in the Georgetown zone final, in a highly anticipated encounter.
At the Scott’s School ground last Thursday, a vocal crowd failed to boost an Orealla Secondary School outfit, when they were trounced 4-0 by pre-tournament favourites NAMSS in the sweltering afternoon heat.
Trivette Grimmond set things off for the N/A lads by netting in the 45th minute and upon the resumption of play for the second half, Shakeel Grant continued his ‘Golden Boot’ form in the tournament by netting in the 49th and 54th minutes.
Derrick Taylor closed off the evening against the Amerindian lads, by booting one past their custodian in 90th minute, to land his team a place in today’s final.
Meanwhile, in the second semifinal played at the Skeldon ground, NATI defeated a spirited Berbice High School unit 2-1, with Darrel Walters netting a double for the victors in the 19th and 82nd minutes, while Mark Wrong retaliated by scoring in the 33rd minute to lock the game 1-1 at lemon time.
It was believed that the match would have ended with a penalty shootout due to a quiet second half as both teams tried desperately to gain the advantage until Walters netted the winning goal to ruin BHS’ chances of making it to the regional final.
This afternoon’s clash between St George’s and Dolphin is what many pundits are looking forward to, since the former are the Petra/Milo Under-20 champions and will be looking to add the Georgetown Championship honours of the prestigious Digicel Championships to their list of accolades.
St George’s will be well represented by their custodian and Petra/Milo Under-20 Most Valuable Player Royston Dublin, with support from Okeri Codrington, Sean Taylor, Azuma Small, Quincy Lawrence and Ozeal Small.
On the other half of the field will be formidable opponents Dolphin, whose fairy godparents smiled on them, following a 6-3 humiliation at the hands of Guyana Industrial Training Centre (GITC) – a decision that was reversed after the victorious side was found guilty of playing an overage player.
Certainly, Dolphin smiled at the second opportunity that was afforded them and came away with a tense, but exciting 1-0 victory over Queen’s College in their semifinal encounter last Friday afternoon, at the same venue for today’s encounter. so
As a result, they will be looking to their custodian Dante Forde, Leon Richardson, Shamar Wilson, Mark Williams, Michael Wharton and their hard-working skipper and striker Toquan Clarke, who has been on target in all of their matches to date, even in the losing cause against GITC.
Action in both matches commences at 15:30hrs.
