A TWENTY-FIVE-YEAR-OLD man was gunned down, execution style, early yesterday morning in front of his Albouystown, Georgetown home. The victim is taxi driver Renie Clive Williams called ‘Willo’ and ‘72’, of Lot 138 King- Edward Street, Albouystown, Georgetown.
His grieving wife, Shondeen Walters, 20, told the Guyana Chronicle that she is at a loss to guess why anyone would want to murder her hard working husband since, as far as she knew, he had no problems.
She said Williams left the Guyana Police Force (GPF) three years ago and they have been married for almost that period of time.
Walters said they went to Mackenzie for Linden Town Week celebrations and returned to the city on Sunday night but decided to go to the seawall before going home.
She related that, about 02:00hrs, they drove up to their home and were about to disembark the car when two shots were fired, hitting Williams in the chest.
“I realised my husband was shot after he slumped in the car after what sounded like explosions and when I looked up I saw what appeared to be an image running away, since the place was dark and void of light,” Walters said.
She stated that a lone gunman clad in dark clothing approached the vehicle and shot through the right rear window and one of the bullets struck Williams in the back, another exited the right side of his chest and another lodged in the left side.
The woman said she informed her relatives and conveyed the mortally wounded Williams to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where he was pronounced dead.
Relatives are of the opinion that the deceased was executed, but Walters said she is unaware if the cause was an old grievance someone had for her husband while he was a policeman.
As she wept, she described him as a fun loving person, who worked honestly to provide for his family.
Williams was attached to Satellite Taxi Service and was the father of two children from previous relationships. He is also survived by two siblings.
Police, in a press release, said Williams was sitting in motor car HB 9310, in front of his residence, when a man approached and discharged several rounds, hitting him in his back.
The assailant escaped but investigations are in progress, the police said.
