Policeman testifies in Bibi Gopaul assault case

CO-ACCUSED in the Neesa Gopaul murder case, Jarvis Small called Barry and the victim’s mother, Bibi Shareeda Gopaul were back in front of Magistrate Nyasha Williams-Hatmin, at the Vreed-en-Hoop court, on Wednesday but not for the preliminary inquiry (PI). It was for the continuation of his assault causing actual bodily harm trial on the charge that said, on August 18, 2010, at about 17:30 hrs, he unlawfully assaulted the woman at her Leonora, West Coast Demerara home.
Gopaul had previously testified, on February 3, that the two of them had an argument and Small dealt her blows about her body.
Police Corporal Cranston Fraser tendered the medical certificate which was issued to the virtual complainant.
The witness said he uplifted the document on August 31, 2010, from Leonora Cottage Hospital and took it to Leonora Police Station and it resulted in Small being arrested.
The policeman was cross-examined by defence counsel Pamela De Santos before the proceedings were adjourned to March 3.
