Trio in illegal guns, ammo cases refused bail

THE Police slapped several charges on three men after illegal arms and ammunition finds at Waini, in the North West District.
The trio appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday and were all remanded to prison.

One of the defendants, Renaldo Da Silva is alleged to have had eight 12-gauge cartridges and a 12-gauge shotgun, without licences for them, on December 30.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, who prosecuted in all the cases, said Da Silva was apprehended while walking on the road with the loaded firearm.
Another of the three, Albert Prince also pleaded not guilty to being, on December 30, in possession, at Waini, of one 16-gauge shotgun and a matching cartridge without being the holder of licences for either.
The Prosecutor said Police went to a mining camp and a search there yielded the shotgun and cartridge under a mattress on which the defendant was sleeping.
The third defendant, James Peters (no address given either) also denied that, on December 31, at Waini, too, he had two 16-gauge cartridges and a 16-gauge shotgun without licences for either.
The Prosecutor said Peters was arrested in a mining camp owned by Dalip Singh into which the defendant walked with the shotgun and cartridges.
The cases were transferred to another court for April 5.
