KEVIN Bennett (no address given) was, yesterday, remanded to prison by Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, on an attempted murder charge.
He is charged, indictably, with having last December 26, with intent to commit the capital offence, unlawfully wounded Delon Gomes.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, said the accused went to the victim’s shop to make a purchase on credit but became annoyed when refused and stabbed the shopkeeper several times, about his body, with a knife.
The accused, however, claimed he offered to pay in raw gold as he had no money and after Gomes took the precious metal, he claimed it fell and he could not find it.
The prisoner said he and Gomes got into an argument and he wounded him in self-defence after the latter attacked him with a broken bottle.
Bennett has to make another Court appearance on January 19.
