…as first victim is buried
ONE of the victims in the horrific Berbice accident, Salmaa Razac, 23, was the first to be buried yesterday afternoon, following a post mortem performed by Government Pathologist Dr Nehaul Singh at the New Amsterdam Hospital mortuary. Razac, who was employed as a converter at the Nand Persaud International Communications, was amongst twelve persons whose untimely death has left the Berbice Community in shock.
Hundreds gathered from all walks of life at the 104 Main Street residence where Razac lived with her parents, and two siblings.
The remains, wrapped in a white kaftan, were displayed briefly for viewing, prior to the final prayers for the dead preformed by attending Muslims.
Earlier, at the New Amsterdam Hospital mortuary, Dr Singh, in an invited comment, told the Guyana Chronicle that the cause of death of all the victims was multiple injuries.
Many victims sustained head injuries, facial disfigurement, and multiple fractures, most of these resulting in instantaneous death.
Relatives at the morgue were aghast at the sight of their love ones. Tears flowed unhindered even as some, unrelated to the victims, viewed the corpses as they were taken to several funeral homes.
