ANOTHER new lawyer was admitted to practice at the local Bar earlier this week.
Ms. Konyo Sandiford, of Lot 143 North Amelia’s Ward, Mackenzie, Linden, secured her admission before Justice Roxanne George, on a petition presented by other attorney-at-law Ms. Sandra Kurtzious.
Sandiford, 23, is the daughter of Ms. Merle Fyffe, retired Inspector of the Linden Local Office of the National Insurance Scheme and Mr. Keith Sandiford, also of Linden.
The successful petitioner attended Mackenzie Primary School, from where she gained a place at Mackenzie High School, on her results from the Secondary Schools Entrance Examination (SSEE) in 1998.
At the latter school, she was an average student ardently involved in and represented the school in numerous extracurricular activities, including dramatic poetry competitions, science fairs, inter-house and inter-school sports.
The Court was also told that, in 2003, she placed fifth in Region Ten (Upper Demerara/Berbice) after sitting the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) tests, having obtained passes in nine subjects inclusive of five grade ones in Arts subjects.
She then took the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) and got passes in eight subjects in 2004 and 2005, cumulatively.
In 2005, she started the University of Guyana (UG) Law Programme and graduated, in 2008, with a Bachelor of Laws degree before going on to read for the Caribbean Legal Education Certificate that she was awarded at Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad and Tobago on September 3 last.
