Two businessmen charged with wounding each other

Two businessmen yesterday appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson to answer charges of wounding each other after a heated argument.
Shatyanand Sugrim, 31, of 48 Middle Road, Mc Doom, East Bank Demerara, pleaded not guilty to the charge, which stated that on July 2, he unlawfully wounded Nandalall Ramkishore.

Also, on the same day, it is alleged that Ramkishore, 36, (no address given) unlawfully assaulted Sugrim so as to cause him actual bodily harm. He also pleaded not guilty and was represented by Attorney-at-law Mr. Mohamed Zaffar who requested reasonable bail.
The lawyer informed the court that his client was stabbed three times about his body with a key.
Sugrim, the owner of a taxi service, was unrepresented and stated that he acted in self defence because Ramkishore approached him in his own yard. He said the argument started because he stopped his drivers from drinking at the defendant’s rum shop.
He said Ramkishore then went into his yard and attacked him.
They were put on $30,000 bail each, and the matters will be called again on August 24.
