SHOP owner Lebert Thomas of Melanie Damishana Public Road, East Coast of Demerara, is a patient of the Georgetown Public Hospital nursing multiple stab wounds he received at the hands of four bandits, who invaded his home and business on Tuesday night.

Mother of the businessman, Yvonne Isaacs told the Guyana Chronicle yesterday that she is unsure whether he had any money in his possession when the robbers launched their brutal invasion but she knows they did not get into the house or the shop.
She explained that it was 22:30 hrs on Tuesday night her son was in the washroom at the back of the yard when he heard voices and when he exited the outhouse he was confronted by four men.
At that time, the business was still opened and even customers who were sitting outside did not know what was happening inside. It was not until after the incident they learnt that bandits had entered the place and stabbed and injured the shop owner.
Thomas upon seeing the men said, “Is what you all doing here, you want trouble.” The men then descended on him and a scuffle ensued but he was overpowered and stabbed repeatedly.
He received stab wounds to the chest and one each at both his right and left side and he is said to be in a critical but stable condition up to press time.
Isaacs added that when she came out of the house the robbers had already fled leaving behind a pair of slippers and a jersey.
She noted that the men gained entry to the property by making their way across a trench at the rear of the house which has a shop in the same yard.
Isaacs pointed out that when she was alerted to the incident she came out of the house and saw her son on the ground and a call was made to other relatives, who quickly arranged for him to be conveyed to the GPH.
POLICE ACTION DELAYED
The woman added that a telephone call was made to the Vigilance Police Station on Tuesday night after the incident but the police told her they could not go to the scene and she should visit the station instead.
Isaacs said that after repeatedly calling the police, they finally showed up on Wednesday morning and took away the pair of muddy slippers and jersey the bandits left.
The father of five, who operates a small shop, was shot and injured a few years ago during an armed robbery.
Relatives, who had gathered at the man’s house yesterday, were praying for his full recovery and his return home.
