GECOM Chair schedules meeting tonight with Commissioners ahead of final declaration

CHAIR of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), Justice (ret’d) Claudette Singh is scheduled to meet with all commissioners in less than an hour.

The Guyana Chronicle was reliably informed that the Chair called a meeting for 11pm.

The primary agenda of the meeting is to discuss the Chief Elections Officer’s (CEO)’s report and certify the official results of the September 1 general and regional elections, which comes after a recount of ballots cast in parts of Regions Four and Five.

The commissioners are Vincent Alexander, Robert Corbin, Desmond Trotman, Sase Gunraj, Manoj Narayan and Clement Rohee.

Several PPP/C agents present during the recount process noted that there have been no major changes.

While speaking to the media this evening, Education Minister and PPP/C candidate Priya Manickchand told the media that “no material changes” observed in recount process.

Several APNU agents opted not to engage the media.

All local and international observer missions have concluded that elections were free and fair in Guyana.

In keeping with Section 96 of the Representation of the People Act, the CEO will compile the official results using the declarations provided by the Returning Officers, while also factoring in the verified outcomes of the recounts.

This report will then be presented to the Elections Commission, paving the way for a final declaration of the results.
