THE 2nd annual Grenville Felix 40-mile cycle road race is set to pedal off this Sunday in Berbice and is open only to members of the Flying Ace Cycling Club (FACC) of New Amsterdam.
Yesterday, members of the Felix family presented the sponsorship cheque for the event to club captain Neil Reece at Main Street, New Amsterdam.
Speaking with Chronicle Sport, coach of the FACC Randolph Roberts thanked the Felix family for contributing towards the development of cycling, with the hope for future support.
“The Flying Ace Club is pleased to be associated with the Felix family as we join them in celebrating another milestone of Grenville Felix, who has made a tremendous contribution towards the sugar industry in Guyana,” he noted.
Russell Felix, who is one of ten offspring of Grenville Felix, said that his family is happy to support and further promote cycling in Berbice.
“We are happy to celebrate the birth anniversary of our father with another cycling event and we will continue our support in the years ahead,” he declared.
Grenville Felix, is a resident of Canefield Settlement, East Canje, Berbice, who celebrated his 96th birthday on Tuesday.
He is the only engineer alive who has worked with Bookers Sugar Estate at Rose Hall, Canje.
The cycle race which will be held in his honour will pedal off from the Canefield Public Road in front of his residence and proceed to the Taki Gas Station at Adventure Village on the Corentyne and back to the starting point for finish.
