Prison Service gets $11.8M addition to mobile fleet

THE Guyana Prison Service (GPS), yesterday received three four-wheel motor vehicles and three motorbikes worth $11.8M, to boost its land transportation fleet.
Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Clement Rohee handed them over to the Director of Prisons, Mr. Dale Erskine, who received the keys at the Ministry’s building on Brickdam, Georgetown.

Rohee said the acquisition was through the 2012 budgetary allocation passed in Parliament and is in keeping with the ministry’s thrust to adequately equip the GPS to carry out it’s duties.
He added that it was necessary to keep the GPS up to speed with land transport and will go a far way, as the vehicles and motorcycles will be utilised for the intended purposes.
Rohee said in the effort to provide efficient and effective mode to suit the transformation of GPS to Guyana Correctional Service, it was seen fit to retool.
The gifts comprised two scooters, one ‘CG’ motor cycle, one Canter truck, one minibus and one pick-up van.
Erskine said the donation came at a good time and he expressed gratitude to the Government, through the ministry, noting that the motorbikes and motor vehicles will be used by the GPS for administrative, agricultural and other purposes to provide better services.
Present at the handing over, too, was Deputy Director of Prisons, Mr. Wilton Trotz, other officers and ranks of the GPS.
