Fifty –year-old tree falls across Essequibo road : -following heavy winds

HEAVY rainfall accompanied by high wind early Thursday morning caused a large “bat seed tree” to collapse on to the Onderneeming public road on the Essequibo Coast.
Reports said the tree which is a historic mark on the public road shoulder at Onderneeming came crashing down on to the road during heavy rainfall briefly blocking traffic. Many cars heading to and from Supenaam had to stop as the tree which is more than fifty years old lay across the public road with many broken branches. Several drivers and passengers said it was God’s hand that guided the large tree as it came crashing down without causing injuries to pedestrians, cyclist or vehicles.
The large tree was located not far from the entrance to the New Opportunity Corp. Vice -Chairman of Region 2 (Pomeroon/Supenaam) Mr. Vishnu Samaroo said the regional administration responded quickly to the blockage of the public road and sent workers with chain saws to remove branches of the large tree .    (Rajendra Prabhulall)
