Commuters were also able to use cars and tapirs for free during the anniversary month.
At the various bus parks, operators wore caps emblazoned with the Bill Express slogan, while their vehicles were draped with the company’s banner.
Georgetown areas targeted were North and South Ruimveldt, Kitty, Campbellville, Guyhoc, Lodge, and East and West Ruimveldt. Other areas targeted were Linden, Essequibo, Berbice, East Coast, East Bank, West Coast and West Bank Demerara.
Commuters expressed their delight at being able to ride the buses for free. They applauded the company’s efforts, and promised to continue supporting the Bill Express service.
Two main objectives of the Bus Ride initiative were: to create widespread awareness of BillExpress, and to give back to customers who have been loyal over the years.
Approximately seven hundred customers had been targeted during this countrywide initiative.
Other activities planned to mark the 10th anniversary celebrations of Bill Express were cake sharing at long serving agents, and a live radio quiz programme.
The company’s vision to provide a first class bill payment service to Guyanese started in 2002 when its head office, Grace Kennedy Remittance Services (Jamaica), introduced its One Stop bill payment service — Bill Express — to Guyana.
Cognizant of the demands for such a service in Guyana, BillExpress began operating at nine locations countrywide. Those agents were C&F Supermarket and Johnny P Supermarket in Georgetown, Riverview and Linden; City Pharmacy on the West Coast of Demerara, Imam Bacchus on the Essequibo Coast; Parasram, Matadeen and R&S Shopping Plaza in Berbice.
GKRS Guyana has said it remains committed to setting industry standards in the provision of bill payment services in Guyana.
