TWENTY-TWO-year-old Richard Layne was recently admitted to practise at the local bar by Justice Roxanne George. His petition was presented by his grandfather, retired judge James Patterson and Senior Counsel,Donald Trotman. Layne recently graduated from the Hugh Wooding Law School,Trinidad&Tobago,where his performance earned him a place on the Principal’s Honours Roll.
The young attorney’s admission is the culmination of an outstanding scholastic career which began at the New Guyana School,where he wrote the Common Entrance exam and emerged among the top 50 candidates in the country. Consequently,he won a place at Guyana’s premier secondary school,Queen’s College. After graduating from Queen’s with nine CXCs,including six Grade Ones, he entered the LLB programme at the University of Guyana and graduated with distinction,copping the McKay/Moore Law Prize for the Second Best Graduating Student.
He is the son of Penelope and Anthony Layne.
