Alphonso undertakes to pay for clearing Charity blockage
CHAIRMAN of Region 2 (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Mr. Parmanand Persaud, accompanied Minister within the Ministry of Finance, Bishop Juan Edghill to Charity, on Essequibo Coast, to inspect a government reserve where a main drain is blocked near a newly constructed shopping mall. Persaud was told by businessman, Mr. Alfro Alphonso that the blockage has caused rainfall water to flood the compound of his former office.
Alphonso said flood waters have also affected persons living in the Charity Back Street area.
Persaud, who was dissatisfied with the situation, sent for the overseer of the Charity/Urasara Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) and, on the spot, ordered him to get an excavator to clear the drain so the accumulation can recede quickly.
Alphonso undertook to pay for the work to be done by the machine, so that residents in the affected area can get relief from flooding.
At Tuesday’s meting of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC), Persaud called for drains in housing areas to be cleared, maintaining that the drainage network must function properly to drain off rainfall water quickly during the continuing May/June showers.
