NARESH Seepersaud, for whom the police launched a manhunt following the April 24 arson, at Lot 3921 Westminister, Phase Two, La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, is still at large. He fled the scene with a bag of clothing after he had set fire to the house he shared with them, leaving his wife and five children homeless.
It followed a domestic dispute with his reputed wife, Swarsattie Mootoo, who, with her five children, resided in the lower flat of the two-storey building while he lived upstairs.
Originally, the whole family occupied the concrete and wooden house but the separate occupation started three years ago.
Recently, too, Mootoo had approached the court because she was tired of being abused by Seepersaud during the past seven years they were living together.
Only two Mondays ago, he had been put on a one-year bond, having been convicted on charges of abuse and threatening behaviour.
The 31-year-old woman said she is determined to start over and will not let the disaster halt progress in her life but she wants Seepersaud brought to justice for the crime that has deprived her and her children of their worldly possessions.
