First ever ‘Linden River Front Festival’ starts today

THE first Linden River Front Festival (LRFF) will be staged from today through to Sunday in Linden.
Starting this morning, the LRFF will be launched at 10:00 h on Co-op Crescent, next to Church’s Chicken, where Chairman of the Linden River Front Development Programme (LRDP) Mr. Sam Wright will give an overview on the concept of the LRFF, which is a celebration of how it will change the face of Linden.
In particular, it will focus on how Lindeners view the Demerara River which splits the town and its attendant river front.

In addition, the Wisroc/Amelia’s Ward Minibus Park, the Walkway along Coop Crescent, and the Egbert Benjamin Conference Hall at the Band Stand area have been described as elements of the LRFDP.

In a release, it was stated that in the pipeline there is an approved sum of $110M to further enhance the frontal area facing the river on both banks in Linden.

Tonight, at the River Front, there will be a libation ceremony with special emphasis on African drumming and this activity will be used to herald in Emancipation Day and it starts around 20:00 h.

Tomorrow, the highlight will be the Heritage Show and Dance competition billed for the Mackenzie Sports Club ground from 20:00 h. This event will see a focus on African Designs which will be displayed by males and females.

A cycle road race is also planned. The Youth vision group will be launched at 16:00 h also at the Lie-Ken-Pen Square at Wismar.

On Sunday, there will be a Regatta which will further boost the festival’s activities while boat rides and a number of competitions for scrabble and domino players are also planned.
