Mashabo health worker reports sickness outbreak, requests help

THE health worker at Mashabo in Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Ms. Esther Charles has reported an outbreak of high fever, accompanied by vomiting and in some cases diarrhoea, in the community. She said many children are affected but that the Government Health Centre has an adequate supply of drugs which are being dispensed to patients free of charge.

Charles told the Guyana Chronicle that the situation is under control but, through the Regional Administration, she requested that a medical team from Suddie Hospital visit the area urgently.

Reports said many residents, who are working aback of the village cutting lumber, are among the victims.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport has started a five-day camp at Mashabo Primary School.

However, all the schoolchildren cannot attend because some are sick.
