– contract to continue under revised conditions
OVER 300 workers, most of whom are women, can breathe a sigh of relief, as the Region Ten, Regional Democratic Council (RDC) and the Kalibur Security Firm, have come to an amicable agreement to resolve their issues, in the favour of both parties and to continue the contract to provide security services, under revised conditions.
This was relayed to top representatives of the security firm by Regional Chairman, Renis Morian and Councillors on Tuesday. Present at the meeting, were officers attached to the Department of Labour and Union Representatives. Both parties described the meeting as a cordial one. They were able to bring closure to the issues.
A decision was made to not terminate the security firm’s contract, as was initially contemplated when the RDC passed a motion to that effect recently. The RDC is one of the security firm’s major clients in Region Ten, and that would have seen about 300 staff on the bread line.
The conflict between the security firm and the RDC arose after a female security guard engaged Morian on allegations of sexual misconduct being meted out to women guards by male supervisors. The security guard also went to the media and made the allegations, where she revealed she was a victim as well as other females. The other females, she mentioned, denied same and, last Friday, even protested against the move by the RDC to terminate a contract based on the report of only one security officer.
