-Development moving apace

DURING a community meeting held at Glasgow, East Bank of Berbice on Friday, it was highlighted that the area has benefitted from several improvements. The more than 500 residents at the community engagement commended the recent developments witnessed under the Coalition Government.

They pointed to the newly-commissioned nursery and primary schools. There was also praises for the installation of more than 300 streetlights, remedial works carried out on the drainage and irrigation systems, and an ICT Hub commissioned at the Glasgow Multipurpose Centre.

The recently-installed ICT hub has been a tremendous boost to students in the community. It has aided with their research for various assignments and particularly for those that sat this year’s Caribbean Secondary Examination Certificate (CSEC), the residents said.

Sixty-nine-year old, David Frank who has lived in the community all his life, noted that the residents of Glasgow Community can finally say they “are getting a piece of the pie” under this government.

“We don’t get flooding as before. That was our struggle which interfered with our farming crops. Pregnant mothers don’t have to travel great distances because now they have easy access to healthcare service at the Edinburg Health Centre which is a neighbouring village,” he remarked. “All we need right now in this community is a Police Outpost since the closest Police Station is four miles away, and I am sure our government will deliver on that.”
Frank also mentioned the construction of new roads in the Glasgow, which will allow for easier egress and ingress to the community.

Strong and positive support was evident from the Glasgow residents. They assured that efforts will be made to have everyone in the community, especially young persons who are eligible, registered.

Member of Parliament (MP), Hon. Barbara Pilgrim, who was a part of the meeting, told the residents that the government will continue to ensure everyone has the necessary provisions to have a better life. (DPI)
