THE Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) is celebrating its Centennial Anniversary throughout the year 2012 in which the Club will be hosting a number of fund raising events and activities aimed at achieving the objectives of fostering the development of the Club’s infrastructure , practice facilities to the benefit of its cricketer’s development and the wider community. During the month of January, DCC will be holding its usual end of month, last Friday, Club Nights and these are expected to be followed by many other activities during the coming months.
The viewing of Regional T20 tournament which commences in Antigua today has been an annual feature on their calendar and it will coincide with the official launch of the club’s Centenary Year Celebrations.
In an effort to engender maximum support while at the same time honour their very own Christopher Barnwell’s ascendancy to the national captaincy, the Queenstown based club has decided to show all the T20 games on wide screen television at the Club’s Lance Gibbs Street venue.
“Our aim is to create a cricket village with a similar atmosphere to those in Antigua and Barbados where the games would be played. Hence, we believe that the public viewing would be undertaken in an engaging and cricket friendly ambience.
The fact that the public would be an environment which has served the game for 100 years, producing great cricketers the likes of the legendary Clive Lloyd, Lance Gibbs, the Harper brothers (Roger and Mark) and the late Roy Fredericks, promises to make the viewing of the games an electrifying experience”, the DCC said in statement yesterday.
In this regard during each match the DCC would avail surround sound system, music, food, drinks, happy hours and promotions throughout the tournament.
Members of the public are invited to visit the Club to view all the games free of charge and support the Barnwell led Guyana team in their quest to regain the Regional T20 Cup once again.
