–one suspect in custody
MINUTES after a Guyana Defence Force rank was robbed of his cellular phone by three knife-wielding bicycle bandits in the presence of a colleague, a passing police patrol arrested one of the suspects a short distance from where the robbery occurred.
Reports are that at around 02:00hrs on Thursday, the soldier, who resides at Nabaclis, East Coast Demerara, and an army colleague were in the vicinity of D’Urban and High Streets when the robbers pounced.
They managed to relieve the rank from Nabaclis of his phone, valued $22,000.
Whilst fleeing from the bandits, the two soldiers managed to stop a passing police patrol and make a report of the robbery.
Based on that report, the police were able to apprehend one of the suspects, who has been positively identified.
That suspect, the police say, is an unemployed 20-year-old Norton Street, Lodge man.
