THE Guyana National Newspapers Limited (GNNL) on Tuesday held a presentation ceremony of prizes for the four winners of their Chronicle Back to School voucher promotion, which was held at GNNL’s office at Lama Avenue, Bel Air Park, Georgetown.

The promotion was launched for Independence week and saw more than 500 entries for one month for children ages 5 – 11. However, only four winners emerged following a drawing.

One of the four winners, Vanesha Budhu, six years old of New Market Primary School, Corentyne, Berbice, won school supplies.

She told the Guyana Chronicle that she was very happy to have received her prize and would continue to read the newspapers and participate in other promotions.

Five-year-old Michael Clarke was indeed pleased being a first time winner. He is a student at St. Christopher’s Nursery, South Ruimveldt. He was presented with a lunch pack containing a water bottle and a lunch bowl.

After she had received her prize of text books, Makeyla Younge, 7, said she was happy she won and would utilise the text books for the upcoming school term. She is a pupil of Stella Maris Primary.

Tina Bhimsain will be attending President’s College when school re-opens having attained 489 marks at CSEC.

She expressed gratitude to the donors for her prize of a back pack, containing all the necessary stationery for school. The sponsors were VNET Communication located at 25 Delph Street, Campbellville, a satellite Internet provider for remote locations throughout Guyana and the Caribbean.

On hand to make the presentation to Tina Bhimsain was Project Coordinator, Siddiq Mohamed, who congratulated all the winners especially, Tina for being a top performer at CSEC. The company also provided a lunch pack to Michael Clarke.

The other sponsor, Tashem’s Enterprise and Document Centre of King Street donated school supplies to Vanesha Budhu, while GNNL gave text books to Makeyla Younge.

GNNL’s Marketing Coordinator, Akash Persaud, said that the event was part of a series of promotions held to get children involved more in reading and education via the Guyana Chronicle.

He added that it was the company’s way of giving back to its young readers and urged them to look out for massive prizes in the promotion that will be launched for Christmas.
