Christian hits century for DCC but GDF take first innings points

DISCARDED national wicketkeeper/batsman Derwin Christian turned in a solid all round performance for his club Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) which was not enough to guarantee them a victory in their Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) organised Heroes Cup first division encounter last weekend. Resuming on their overnight score of 60-2 in reply to the Guyana Defence Force’s (GDF) first innings score of 325-9 declared, DCC failed to snatch first innings points from their opponents, as they were bowled out for 245.
Christian led the way with an aggressive 107 which included 10 sixes and seven fours, while Leroy Primo who resumed on 1, went on to hit three fours and one six in his 27 with Utam Munroe hitting two fours in his unbeaten 22.
Left arm orthodox spinner Dennis Legay took 5-85 and Jeremiah Harris 2-57 for GDF who batting a second time with a lead of 80, were bowled out for 134 with Christian returning with the ball to take 5-29 with his military medium pace.
Dillon Heyliger top scored with 30 (2×4, 2×6) and received support from another discarded national player in opener Shemroy Barrington and Marcus Watkins who both made 22, with Watkins hitting three fours and one six and Barrington three fours.
Opener Trevon Griffith offered support to Christian with his 2-35 and at the close of play, DCC who needed 215 to record a come from behind victory were 34-3 with Christian being unbeaten on 15 (1×4, 1×6) while Barrington emulated Christian to take 3-13.
Across at the Police Sports Club ground, the home team and their opponents Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) played to a stalemate, with the visitors taking first innings points.
PSC resumed on 47-2 in reply to GNIC’s 319-6 declared of which Krishna Arjune struck 156 and were bowled out for 190, even though Jason Heyliger who resumed on 13 made 59 (8×4, 2×6) Trevor Benn 35 (2×4, 2×6) and Kevin Singh 34 (2×4; 1×6).
Ranole Bourne and Collis Butts took 4-84 and 3-40 respectively for GNIC who took their first innings lead from 129 to 283 when the game was called off, after being 154-4 in their second innings.
National Under-19 batsman Quincy Ovid-Richardson rebounded from his first innings duck to score an unbeaten 78 that was decorated with 10 fours and two sixes and received support from Elton Baker who struck three fours in his 27 against the bowling of Jaigobin Persaud who took 2-41 for PSC.
At the GDF ground, Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) and Everest Cricket Club faced each other, with the former taking first innings points from the latter in another drawn encounter, whose scores were unavailable.
The action is set to continue this weekend with another round of matches.
