Canada swamp Guyana 11-3 at Pan American Indoor hockey

ON  Tuesday, Canada swamped Guyana 11-3 in the first match on the second day of the 2010 Pan American indoor hockey championships which is being played in Barquisimeto, Venezuela.
Both Canada and Guyana started the match fighting for possession and five minutes into the match, Canada received the first penalty corner and scored off it to take a one-nil lead.
A few minutes later, Canada scored again this time off a field goal, to go ahead of Guyana 2-0, and two more goals which were quickly scored off long shots from the left, gave them a four-nil lead over their South American opponents.
However, Guyana continued to play strong and received a penalty corner, but could not convert it and with a few minutes remaining in the first half, Canada received several penalty corners that were blocked by Guyana’s defence, before Canada managed to convert one and end the first half with a 5-0 score line in their favour.
The Canadians carried their strong scoring momentum from the first half into the second and were rewarded within the first minute where they found the back of the net to make it 6-0 against a now hapless-looking Guyana team.
With fifteen minutes remaining, Canada made the score 7-0, but even though they were down by a huge margin and with little time remaining on the clock, Guyana did not let up and quickly after scored their first goal of the match.
Canada came back with another quick goal of their own, followed by another strike, before Guyana came back with a strike of their own off a penalty corner, to make it 9-2 with five minutes remaining.
The two goals brought some life into the team from the Land of Many Waters, and they struck another just before the final whistle went, but it was a little too late for Guyana, as Canada found the back of their net twice after to come away with a big tournament win.
