RESIDENTS of Burnham Drive, Linden, are especially grateful for the installation of street lights on the roadway, which have greatly increased visibility in the area. This project was completed by the Ministry of Public Infrastructure after Region 10 Chairman Renis Morian had engaged minister with the portfolio David Patterson on the matter.
The roadway, which spans from the end of the Wismar Bridge to the community of Christianburg, has received approximately 84 street lights.
This roadway connects most of the streets on the Wismar Shore. It was in dire need of street lights since poor visibility was deemed a cause for several accidents.
Sergeant-in-Charge of Traffic Shawn Massay had recommended better lighting along these roadways to reduce accidents.
He alluded to the fact that with the fog system that causes poor visibility, better lighting was needed. According to Senior Project Engineer within the Ministry of Public Infrastructure Kester Hinds, the project was executed to the tune of $13M.
Morian is highly appreciative of the speedy response from Minister Patterson on improving the region’s public infrastructure.
The minister has provided a portable bitumen plant for the region to commence the construction of roads.
He has also promptly and positively responded to a request by the Chairman for the refurbishing of several kokers and culverts on Burnham Drive that were in a state of disrepair.
These kokers that aid in the effective drainage of excess water into the Demerara River were responsible for soil erosion in several communities on the western side of the river. Only Tuesday, a team of engineers from the Ministry of Public Infrastructure was in Linden to ensure these projects are carried out correctly.
