GUYANA Defence Force (GDF) Lance Corporal Delroy Mitchell, previously charged with causing death by dangerous driving, on Tuesday, pleaded not guilty to a charge of unlawful use of firearm.
Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan, before whom the defendant appeared at Christianburg Court, granted him $50,000 bail.
The 25-year-old soldier, of Lot 117 Albert Street, Georgetown and Number 53 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, secured the grant on an application by attorney-at-law Mr. Michael Somersall.
Mitchell had already posted $300,000 surety, in October 2009, on the charge of causing the death of Enid Sharpe by dangerous driving.
It is alleged that he drove an Army vehicle in a manner dangerous to the public and killed Sharpe on May 22, 2009, at Amelia’s Ward, also in Linden.
The new case, in which he is accused of discharging rounds in the air to prevent lawful apprehension, has been adjourned to March 24. (Joe Chapman)
