Courts Optical Pee Wee Football Competition
THE battle lines have been drawn and only eight teams remain in the Courts Optical Pee Wee Football Competition which heads to the quarter-finals on Saturday October 25.
In the round of 16, there were some evenly matched battles as the top primary school teams vie for a chance to advance to the next round.
The quarter-finals winners were St Pius Primary, the prolific St John the Baptist Primary, Agatash Primary, St Gabriel’s Primary, West Ruimveldt Primary, Tucville Primary, Leonora Primary and Santa Rosa Primary.
The day’s biggest upset saw Redeemer Primary knocking out the champions Santa Rosa.
Santa Rosa Primary showed grit but a slip up in defence gave Redeemer Primary the opportunity they desired and Elijah Naughton buried it in the 23rd minute.
It would prove the lone goal for the contest as both teams found it hard to penetrate each other’s defence afterwards.
West Ruimveldt and Leonora were the biggest winners by scoreline.
West Ruimveldt got past St Theressa’s Primary 5-nil, with Jaseen Paris scoring a hat-trick with Zyron Austin and Ceon Rajkumar scoring the other goals.
Leonora Primary then thrashed Marian Academy with doubles from Adrian Harry and Jhonathan Melvin.
Other winners were Tucville Primary who beat Georgetown International Academy.
St. Pius Primary also got past Potaro Primary 2-1, St John the Baptist also edged Stella Maris Primary 2-1.
North Georgetown went down to Agatash Primary on penalty kicks 3-2.
Charity Primary and St Gabriel’s Primary were also tied at the end of regulation time forcing penalty kicks to decide the winner with St Gabriel’s winning it 3-1.
