IPF Masters World Championship…
PRESIDENT of the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPLF) Paul Meusa says that Franklyn Brisport-Luke lived up to expectations to hand the country 4 more medals at the International Powerlifting Federation Men’s Masters World Equipped Championship.
The event is taking place in Cape Town, South Africa.
According to Musa, “His was a stellar performance; he equipped himself well, and did all the number required to get those medals. It’s a performance we are so proud of, and we can only get better from here. I take my hat off to Brisport for putting in that performance, and representing his country well.”
Guyana’s masters two 66KG powerlifter Brisport-Luke has shown his experience and class to capture bronze medals in the Squat, Deadlift and Bench Press to finish third overall.
Brisport-Luke’s biggest competition came from Mongolia’s Batchuluun Gavaa, and Germany’s Matthais Riesch.
In the Squat, he would finish with a best of 130kg, with Riesch taking the gold with a lift of 190kg.
In the Bench Press, Brisport-Luke had a best of 75 kg to again take bronze, with Gavaa taking gold this time with a best bench press of 110kg.
In the Deadlift, the Guyanese was again good enough for third, with a highest lift of 137.5, with Germany’s Riesch again taking gold to win the overall masters 2 66kg gold medal.
He also competed in the classic segment of the competition, finishing 7th overall in the 66kg Masters 1 weight class.
Earlier in the classic segment of the competition, Nadina Taharally captured the bronze medal.
Taharally, competing in the Women’s Masters two 76 kg category, took a Deadlift bronze medal, but finished 4th place overall against the world’s best in her weight class.
She was only bettered in the Deadlift class by Canada’s Mayo Amelie, and New Zealand’s Jessop Roshelle, who captured gold and silver in the Deadlift.
Also representing Guyana at the Masters Championship was Mohammad Wasim, who finished 8th in his Masters one, 93 kg category, and Bjorn Williams, who finished 7th overall in his masters one 105 kg group.
