A 23-year-old Bartica resident, Kemo Abrams of First Avenue, was ordered to pay a total of $150,000 in fines after pleading guilty to multiple offences in the Bartica Magistrate’s Court earlier this week.
Appearing before His Worship Magistrate Teriq Mohammed, Abrams faced three separate charges. He was first charged with making a loud and continuous noise, contrary to Section 174(1) of the Summary Jurisdiction (Offences) Act, and was fined $10,000. He also pleaded guilty to having prohibited tinted glass on his vehicle, in violation of Section 103 A (1) of the Road Traffic Amendment Act, resulting in an additional $10,000 fine.
The most substantial charge related to an obscure ID mark on his motor vehicle, contrary to Section 13 of the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act, for which Abrams was fined $130,000.
In total, the court imposed fines amounting to $150,000. Abrams was advised that failure to pay the fines would result in a six-week custodial sentence.
This case serves as a reminder to motorists and residents of Bartica to adhere to traffic and noise regulations to avoid similar penalties.
