–Minister Teixeira says, reminds Region Seven voters not to squander their votes

Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Governance, Gail Teixeira, told Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) voters not to squander their ballots and warned them of those who are attempting to commit bribery ahead of the September 1st polls.

As the countdown intensifies to General and Regional Elections, the Minister, on Saturday at the party’s Bartica rally, told region seven residents to vote wisely to continue the progress that is being executed by the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) administration.

As she addressed the mammoth crowd, she reminded them of the transformation taking place in region seven under the PPP/C.

“The transformation going on in this country is unbelievable,” she said, pointing to the infrastructure upgrades and employment opportunities that residents of the region are reaping.

However, the Minister said that there is more to be done

“This is where you come in, my friends. We don’t squander our votes. We don’t squander these opportunities,” she said.

She cautioned residents not to be complacent and urged them to mobilise their community to head out to the polls on September 1.

“It is time. It is time for region seven, after all these years of PNC control,” Minister Teixeira said.

She further called out those opposition parties that are attempting to seduce the electorate with unrealistic promises and slammed those who have been accused of trying to buy votes.

“The people of region seven have awoken. They’re enlightened. They want more of the change they’ve experienced in the last five years. They want more development and they want to do it as one people, one Guyana for the next five years with President Ali leading us,” she said to a roaring crowd.

Last week, GECOM reminded all stakeholders in the September 1, 2025, General and Regional Elections that they all have a statutory duty and civic responsibility to contribute to the elections being conducted in a free, fair, transparent, and credible manner.

In this regard, the Commission took the opportunity to strongly emphasise the need for voters and other concerned stakeholders to be informed of the following provisions as enacted in the Representation of the People Act Cap: 1:03: – “It is an offence for any person, including the voter himself, to communicate at any time to any person, any information about the political party for which any voter has voted on his behalf or as a proxy on behalf of another voter; Similarly, it is an offence for anyone to influence, by any means, a voter to display his ballot paper, to make known the political party for whom he has voted on his behalf, or as a proxy.

Further, it is an offence for any person, directly or indirectly, to offer any money, gift, and/or a loan, to any voter to secure the vote of any voter at the elections.
Any person who commits any of the above offences shall be liable on summary conviction to pay a fine and to imprisonment for six months.”

“Persons convicted for any of the above offences may also be prohibited from participating in future elections,” GECOM said.
