THE Guyana Geology & Mines Commission (GGMC), in collaboration with the Guyana Mining School and Training Centre Inc. and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) – Guyana, recently wrapped up an impactful Education and Awareness Outreach in the Upper Mazuruni, Mining District #3.
The recent outreach brought vital technical assistance directly to miners in the Indigenous communities of Imbaimadai/Omanik and Jawalla. With active support from GGMC’s Environmental Division, Geological Services Division, and Mineral Processing Unit, the initiative focused on promoting responsible mining practices while strengthening environmental management and occupational safety and health (OSH) standards.
Miners benefitted from hands-on guidance and were provided with safety tokens such as vests, gloves, visibility strips, headgear, and flashlights to support safer working conditions on the ground.
The GGMC reaffirmed its commitment to raising awareness and building capacity among small- and medium-scale miners, especially within Indigenous communities, to ensure the sustainability and safety of Guyana’s mining sector.
