— Minister Persaud demands full accountability, calls for permanent closure of bar
The 20-year-old woman at the centre of a viral video showing her alleged sexual assault at Raghoo’s Sports Bar has officially reported to police that she was drugged and raped by three men during the horrifying ordeal.
According to a police update, the young Amerindian woman, who resides along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway, was taken to the Timehri Police Station at approximately 20:20 hrs on Friday by Amerindian rights activist Laura George, where she made a formal report.
She told officers she had no memory of consenting to the acts seen in the video and believes she was drugged before being sexually assaulted by multiple men at the bar.
The Guyana Police Force confirmed that the bartender and several other persons of interest have since been arrested, while efforts are underway to locate additional suspects and witnesses captured in the footage.

Meanwhile, Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr. Vindhya Persaud, took to Facebook on Saturday to issue another blistering condemnation of the act and a rallying call for justice.
“All those directly involved or complicit in that public ‘rape’ at Raghoo’s Bar must be held accountable. They must face the full force of the law,” the Minister declared.
She stressed that accountability must extend beyond the perpetrators themselves, pointing fingers at the establishment’s management and calling for long-term closure of the venue.
“It is my personal view that owners of Bars have responsibilities and must be held accountable for all the nefarious practices there. The Raghoo’s Bar on the Highway must remain shut! Drugs! Sexual Assault! Rape! All crimes.”
The Minister also appealed to the public to help bring all perpetrators to justice.
“If persons have any information that will help, report it to the Timehri Police Station. Too often, people get away with crimes because of a lack of evidence and information,” Persaud said.
She assured that the young woman is now safe and receiving comprehensive support, including shelter, survivor advocacy, counselling, and legal aid coordinated by the Ministry.
Police investigations are ongoing.
The GPF and relevant ministries continue to urge the public to refrain from circulating the video and instead assist investigators by coming forward with any helpful information.
