THE 20th China Medical Team for Guyana recently delivered a free medical outreach and first-aid training at Mackenzie Police Station in Region 10, embodying China’s humanitarian commitment and strengthening bilateral ties.
At the clinic, team specialists offered blood pressure and glucose screenings, internal and surgical consultations, and pain management services. Each officer received personalised care, detailed symptom assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and tailored health advice, earning praise for their professionalism.
A highlight was hands-on training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the Heimlich manoeuvre. Critical for law enforcement, these skills equip officers to respond to emergencies on duty or in daily life. Experts combined lectures with demonstrations and one-on-one drills, covering steps from assessing consciousness to executing chest compressions and abdominal thrusts.
“Police face unique health risks in high-stakes roles,” noted Dr. Feng Liang, deputy team leader.
“This initiative aims to safeguard their wellbeing while sharing China’s medical expertise to enhance local emergency response capabilities.”
Sergeant Marshall, community relations officer, commended the effort: “We are very grateful to the Chinese doctors for coming here to carry out the free clinic and provide training. These services are invaluable. We hope the team returns to train more officers in life-saving skills.”
