THE Government of Guyana’s ‘Because We Care’ cash grant distribution has entered its third week, with parents and guardians in Regions One, Eight, and Ten set to receive a total of $1.68 billion to support the educational needs of their children.
This year, each child is eligible for $55,000, which includes the School Uniform and Supplies Grant. The initiative is part of a broader $11.28 billion allocation in the 2025 National Budget aimed at benefitting over 205,000 learners nationwide.
According to the Ministry of Education, the breakdown of the third-week disbursement is as follows: Region 1: $797,005,000 for 14,491 learners, Region 8: $240,515,000 for 4,373 learners, and Region 10: $646,085,000 for 11,747 learners.
Children at the nursery, primary, and secondary levels are all eligible for the grant. Earlier phases of the distribution saw other regions benefitting as well: Region 2: $706,420,000 for 12,844 learners, Region 5: $638,660,000 for 11,612 learners, Region 7: $447,975,000 for 8,145 learners, and Region 9: $595,705,000 for 10,831 learners.
The ‘Because We Care’ initiative, administered by the Ministry of Education, underscores the government’s ongoing investment in human capital development. It aims to reduce the financial burden on families and ensure that children have the necessary resources to excel in school.
The Ministry has reiterated its commitment to transparency and efficiency in the distribution process and is encouraging all parents and guardians to ensure their children are enrolled and are regularly attending school to qualify for the grant.
This flagship social programme continues to stand as a testament to the government’s dedication to ensuring equitable access to education for all Guyanese children.
